Lina Järnegard

Born 1979 in Borkhult, Sweden, Lina Järnegard was educated at the Gotland School of Composition (Visby, Sweden) and at the Academy of music and drama (Gothenburg, Sweden). Her main teachers have been Per Mårtensson, Henrik Strinberg, Ole Lützow-Holm and Ming Tsao. In 2011 she also studied at the Royal Scottish Academy for Music and Drama in Glasgow with composer David Fennessy. Lina was selected in 2012 to join Tzlil Meudcan in Israel, a festival and summer course for contemporary music lead by composers Chaya Chernowin and Steven Takasugi. In 2010 Lina started an opera ensemble, Dråpera, together with mezzo soprano Anna-Sara Åberg. The ensemble consists of various artists and musicians which together explore and develop methods and ideas for new experimental opera and music theatre.

Aside from continuously working in the field of chamber opera, Lina writes chamber music in collaboration with swedish chamber ensembles such as Curious Chamber Players, Mimitabu, Gageego!, Hidden Mother, Makadam, Norrbotten NEO and GGR Betong but also with international ensembles such as german/polish duo Frank Wörner (baritone)/Malgorzata Walentynowisc (piano), New York based ensemble Mise-en and Zöllner/Roche duo. Her piece ”the waves: identity” was selected to be presented at the IAWM annual concert 2013 and was performed in NY by ensemble Mise-en. In 2016, her piece ”Emellanåt, stundom” was selected to represent Sweden in the International Rostrum of composers. ”Emellanåt, stundom” was recorded in 2017 by NEO Norrbotten and is represented on their CD silent plan.

Since 2012, Lina has been a board member and producer in Levande Musik, an organisation in Gothenburg that arranges concerts with contemporary music. Lina is also part of ”instrumentverkstad” where she build instruments with children in schools, at festivals, and in culturehouses.
